The Samsung JS8500 offers a beautifully thin and flat design for this 4K Ultra HD display. Unlike other models, the JS8500 offers Motion Rate 240 (refresh rate), while most others only provide only 120Hz. The 240Hz refresh rate is perfect for sports and action films and television, as it offers a super smooth transition between each frame without blurring. It is also excellent for gaming for this reason, as well.
The JS8500 uses Edge Backlighting and Nano-crystal Technology as its color and light source, which offers millions of additional colors than ever before. This is a top-of-the-line display that makes 4K viewing a high-quality experience.
This model also provides excellent viewing of 3D film, with little to no crosstalk (also called image ghosting, or the 3D version of blurring or distortion due to perceptual factors).
The 3D viewing feature is available on all three sizes of the Samsung JS8500, with the 48”, 55”, and the 65” and the purchase of this Samsung model includes one pair of 3D active glasses (model SSG-5150GB). The 4K resolution (2160p) maximizes your 3D experience even more with the astounding picture, made available by Samsung’s use of Nano-crystal technology on the LCD backlit display. This means more colors, greater contrast, and a 3D viewing experience that will be incredible.
The 3D picture is greater on this Samsung JS8500 than almost any other model, due to reduced glare via the Ultra Clear Panel screen, the Nano-crystal 4K display, and the 240Hz refresh rate which offers exceptional motion onscreen without digital stuttering or–just a smooth picture.
The Samsung JS8500 has built-in Wi-Fi and uses “Smart TV” to deliver a host of options for entertainment. With Smart TV, you can stream movies, television shows, music, and more, with the app functions that allow you to connect to Netflix, Hulu, Pandora Radio, etc…
Smart TV also allows you to browse your favorite websites with the web browser that is offered, essentially turning your TV into a computer in some ways. Smart TV also allows you to multitask and switch between apps and stream content with the on-board quad-core processor built into the TV.
Not only does the JS8500 have Smart TV, but it also contains “Smart View 2.0,” and screen mirroring technology. This means you can use the large display of your television instead of your portable devices (e.g., smartphone or tablet) to watch content or perform other functions such as viewing photos, watching a film, going on social media, and anything else you can think of.
In addition to all of this, you can connect and sync with Bluetooth wirelessly, and use a smartphone, tablet, keyboard, or headphones to the television. This is truly an excellent 4K TV, and at a retail price of $1,999.99 for the 55” model, it is up to the buyer to determine if the price is worth it.
The LG EG9600 is definitely an expensive television—in fact, it is one of the most expensive TVs of its kind on the market. With a 55 inch display, this LG boasts true 4K Ultra HD and Curved Smart OLED technology in the 2015 model. This curve is actually quite attractive and makes for excellent cinematic viewing.
The use of OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) uses organic semiconductors to create light. They are thinner and offer a more efficient display than regular LEDs and offer colors and resolution. Since it uses OLED, the entire model is thinner, because it does not require a backlight at all—this makes the blacks deep and the TV thin. This model is 3D compatible as well, which takes the OLED Curved 4K viewing to another level.
The only real competitor to this LG is the Samsung JS9500 SUHD TV, which also features the same deep curved design, true 4K resolution, and incredible color. However, there is a difference in panel technology. The Samsung uses Nano-crystal technology and Mult-Zone Full Array Backlighting. The LG did not need any backlighting due to it using OLED, which is thinner and organic. Otherwise, they come with similar Smart TV applications and features and are excellent cinematic televisions.
There is the difference in price, however—the Samsung model of the JS9500 costs $4,000 retail, which is nearly even to the LG’s advertised $3,989. However, upon some searching, the LG model is going for up to $5000 online, which makes it difficult to find it at a discounted rate.
The Samsung model can actually be purchased at the advertised $4000 discounted price online—the retail price is nearly $8,000. Depending when you shop and if you get a deal, it is up to you to decide how much money you would like to spend. Both of these 4K TVs are excellent, but if it were me, I would buy the LG EG9600 due to the OLED feature and the other features that combine to make this a high-quality curved 4K UHD television that you will definitely not regret buying.
